Format
We are Macintosh-based in the design department (Adobe Illustrator 8), but we can accept both PC
(Adobe Illustrator 10) and Macintosh platform files.
Submitting Camera Read Art
Digital
Files are needed but a professionally prepared b/w stat can be also used.
Send
only original, native vector .eps files
Macintosh
(MAC) format is preferred, but PC format is acceptable if created properly
Art
files should be created in Adobe Illustrator 10 or lower versions, Macromedia
Freehand, CorelDraw*.
Fonts
(any text) should be outlined or set to curves, as they may not translate on
our end and will default to another font.
Important for CS users
We
DO NOT guarantee usability of any Illustrator CS files.
If you have art created in this format, you will need to open the files in a
lower version of Illustrator and save down to a Illustrator 8, eps. DO
NOT save down versions from CS, as it does not save down versions properly.
Allow several days to work through the prepress process if you have CS. Please
note: if you have to send from CS-"export" files to illustrator 8 .eps (legacy)
files. This will not ensure that the files will not corrupt, but we can try to
see if it works.
Important for CorelDraw users
All
CorelDraw (CDR) files must be saved as an Adobe Illustrator EPS (Adobe
Illustrator, EPS, Curves.)
All
files must be saved as EPS and all text converted to outline. EPS format
files provide superior reproduction quality allowing images to be resized
with no loss of sharpness or detail.
Hard
Copy
Crisp
black and white printed artwork of 600 dpi or higher is acceptable.
Mailed not faxed. We recommend sending black and white laser prints at
200% larger than size to be printed. Art will then be scanned and streamlined
into a useable format.
Please
Note…the following is not camera ready
Photographs,
slides, transparencies, halftone (grayscale) art, low resolution laser
printed artwork of less than 600 dpi, photocopies, faxed art,
letterhead, business cards, web images or any other art that needs to be
touched-up, color separated, or multi-color art to be made one-color or
otherwise improved.
Scans, stats, or Photoshop files placed in Illustrator are not considered camera
ready either. Remember, you can never make it better than the original.
Do
not send art files from the following Mac or PC platforms: BMP,
Photoshop, JPG, GIF, PICT, or TIFF. Do not attempt to save these files
in an acceptable format. We cannot guarantee files sent from PC platforms
(BMP, DOC, GIF, PICT, PPT) or any other than our preferred file formats
or acceptable software will be usable.
PC
files such as DOC, EXE, PCX, PPT, P65, or XLS are NEVER acceptable. These file formats are generally low
resolution-- only suitable for viewing on-screen-- not for printing and
cannot be appropriately modified.
Spot
Color File Format (one, two, or three colors, not four-color process)
Adobe
Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand Workable EPS (Encapsulated Postscript)
files with text converted to outline are preferred. A laser print of art
marked with PMS color numbers should be included. Photoshop PSD, RGB or
CMYK files in any file format for spot color orders are not acceptable.
When Sending (Full
Color) Artwork
Four-Color
Process File Formats should
only
be sent as 300 DPI, JPEG, TIFF and Photoshop EPS files are acceptable for CMYK
(Four-Color Process). Also acceptable are Quark Xpress and Photoshop
files for four-color process only. However, all support files (graphics, placed
images and fonts) must be included when placed in page layout programs. These
files cannot be used for spot color orders.
Send
us the artwork:
Fax
or mail a copy of the artwork prior to sending digital artwork. Fax must
include company name, phone number, and order number.
You
may compress files to reduce sending time or to fit on a disk. Acceptable
Mac compression files include SIT or SEA (StuffIt) or HQX (BinHex).
